Live Ledge #120: Detroit Rock City

Earlier this summer, Steve Miller (the journalist, not the musician) published an excellent book on the history of Detroit-based rock 'n' roll. Beginning with the garage rock of the mid-60's, Miller's oral history moves through the acid rock years of the late 60's, the rise and fall of the Stooges and MC5, and the hardcore and garage rock of the past couple of decades. It's a fascinating read, even if Miller did completely miss the story of Death, one of the great lost punk bands of all time.
Inspired by this book, tonight's show is fueled by nothing but music from that great city. There are plenty of household names (Romantics, Suzi Quatro, White Stripes), but also plenty of bands that deserved more acclaim (Gories, Laughing Hyenas, Necros) than they received during their time together.
