The Ledge, Episode 60: Valentine's Day
"If you were a pill
I'd take a handful at my will
And I'd knock you back with something sweet and strong" - The Replacements, "Valentine"
Ok, I have to say I absolutely detest Valentine's Day. Big surprise, I know, but it's one of those fake "holidays" created by advertising execs to sell useless garbage and create unrealistic demands from people in otherwise healthy relationships.
It's not that I'm against doing nice things for the people you love...or at least lust. Shouldn't one do nice things every day, though? And I don't mean stupid hearts and flowers (although they're not out of the question). Kind words, thoughtful actions, and occasional nice gifts and meals given when the time is right, not when the calendar demands it.
Despite these beliefs, I couldn't resist putting together a show to "celebrate" the day. Clearly, though, this isn't the type of Valentine's Day show that's meant to accompany video footage of Cameron Diaz feeding Alex Rodriguez popcorn at the Super Bowl. Like most Ledge episodes, sarcasm generally replaces sentimental tripe in the lyrics of these tunes.
